Letter from Khalilah Elliott, Interim Executive Director
October 30, 2024
I am writing to share an important update about the future of YES! ÎÞÂëÊÓƵ.
When I stepped in as interim executive director in June, I did so because I was inspired by YES!’s commitment to amplifying the truth, inspiring hope, and uplifting diverse experiences and viewpoints.
Now more than ever, the power of the media to influence and shape our daily lives is undeniable. While mainstream outlets often overlook issues like climate justice, systemic racism, and colonial violence, YES! elevates perspectives that are too often excluded. And shines a light on solutions including reparations, abolition, and sovereignty.
Next week, the United States will elect its next president. As we approach this crucial time for the nation, the role of independent media has never been more important.
YES! ÎÞÂëÊÓƵ has been a beacon of progressive, independent journalism and a trusted source for solutions reporting for nearly three decades. To ensure YES! ÎÞÂëÊÓƵ can continue its efforts challenging the status quo and amplifying underrepresented voices for years to come, however, YES! must continue to evolve. That’s why we are making strategic decisions to adapt and grow in 2025 as part of a bold, strategic vision for the organization’s future.
A Bright Future For YES!
Throughout 2025, in order to reduce our operating costs, expand our multimedia content and audiences, and rebrand our organization, we will temporarily pause the printing of YES! Magazine.
In 2025, all of our content will be published online at www.yesmagazine.org.
This approach will drastically reduce our annual operating expenses next year, allowing YES! the time it needs to reach a healthy financial state, while allocating our resources to expanding our multimedia stories, digital outreach, and online audiences.
If you are a print subscriber, you can choose from one of several options including donating or pausing your 2025 subscription via your today.
If you do NOT make a selection by December 31, 2024, we will automatically pause your 2025 subscription and you will receive your remaining magazines in 2026 when we begin publishing again.
For more details, including how to manage your subscription, please review these Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). We will also send updates directly to subscribers in the coming weeks with more information.
Our team imagines 2025 as YES!’s chrysalis phase—a period of transformation that will allow us to imagine and assess how best to deliver our culture-shifting content to readers new and old. Our hope is to reemerge in 2026 with a renewed vision for the future of our solutions journalism in time to celebrate 30 years of YES!.
We realize that change is never easy and that you may have questions. Members of our team are on standby and will be here to support you and answer your questions in the coming days.
Thank you again for your generous support and commitment to independent journalism. Although the path ahead may not be an easy one, together, we can ensure YES! remains a trusted voice for progress and solutions in the months and years ahead.
We look forward to bringing you more phenomenal reporting in 2025 and beyond!
In solidarity and transformation,
Khalilah R. Elliott
