Why I Give – Delila Olsson
Thirty-six years ago, Delila Olsson read Maria Montessori鈥檚 vision of a new humanity and it ignited her life鈥檚 work. Inspired by Montessori鈥檚 belief that holistic education can lead to a more peaceful, sustainable future, Delila became a committed Montessori teacher. Today she is program director at West Hills Montessori School in Portland, Oregon.
What are your passions?
I am passionate about supporting connections that build healthy communities through education. Children who connect deeply with nature seem to innately understand they are part of a larger web of belonging. With this sense of connection intact, they are more likely to become empathetic, compassionate, socially responsible global citizens.
How did you come to YES!?
I picked up my first copy of YES! more than 20 years ago. That鈥檚 where I first read the words of Thomas Berry, who eloquently expressed the need for a new Earth story to replace the current one of human destruction of our ecosystems. I was immediately hooked on the magazine鈥攁nd on Thomas Berry!
How does YES! support your values and your work to build a better world?
We are at an inflection point in our journey as a species. In order to solve the social and environmental crises we ourselves have created, we must understand our past and present circumstances and choices. I look to YES! for guiding voices, exploring critically important questions about what it means to be human, and ways we can utilize our humanity for good.
Why do you donate to YES!?
To be a successful teacher, one must be a lifelong learner. I like to support the sources of wisdom that support my learning which I, in turn, share with my learning community.
I also know that with so many recent attempts to silence truthful storytelling and fact-based journalism, reader support has never been more important. We must each do our part to protect the voices of truth and integrity that are guiding us to a better future.
I hope you will join me in supporting YES! so we can ensure that this paradigm-shifting work continues!
