Why I Give – Lynn
Lynn鈥檚 work has ranged from working in a deli to skinning birds to trail-guiding by horseback to book design and photojournalism. The underlying theme has been connecting鈥攑eople to each other, to the world, and in the case of portrait photography, to what they love in themselves. She also plays music and creates art, because, as she says, 鈥渢hey too connect us to each other.鈥
How did you come to YES!?
My first issue of YES! was a gift subscription, and it is the issue that I have kept for decades. Every time I open YES! I learn. The first article I saw on tiny houses was in YES!鈥 and that inspired me to design and build the tiny house I live in. YES! publishes stories about deeper issues and corners of the world I didn鈥檛 even know existed.
Thanks, in part, to YES!, I am more aware of my unconscious role in White supremacy. As I grew up, my parents, with good intentions, encouraged me toward social 鈥渃olorblindness.鈥 Later I realized that skin color is not 鈥渘othing.鈥 It is integral to cultural and individual experience鈥攖o each person鈥檚 sense of being. If we ignore each other鈥檚 skin color, we are blind to the core of each other鈥檚 humanity鈥攁nd our own.
I am eager to understand better how I can be a part of reparations. YES! helps.
Why do you support YES! as a monthly donor?
YES! is not supported or influenced by advertising money. That makes it my privilege to support their work by supporting their costs. My heart feels better when I act in congruence with what I believe helps
our world.
And, personally, I need to read about solutions鈥攔eal solutions to real problems鈥攍arge and small, from extraordinary and ordinary (like me) people who choose to stand up, speak out, and take action for the well-being of the world.
These stories encourage me to take action, so instead of thinking I can鈥檛 make a difference, I can say 鈥測es鈥 to life, participate, and open up my little corner.
Please join me in supporting YES! so we can keep these essential stories coming.
