What’s at Stake: Watch the Clinton-Trump Debate with YES! Magazine
Tonight at 9 Eastern, the debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump is expected to be watched by 100 million people—more than any other debate in history. And YES! reporters and editors will be, too, watching the debate carefully—and live tweeting. Use the hashtag to join our conversation.
The way we see it, the stakes could not be higher.
Polls suggest the two candidates are in a close race.
On the one hand, Americans who want to expand social justice and protect the environment stand to gain in this election. A new report in the Huffington Post describes Clinton’s policy plans in detail, calling them “as unambiguously progressive as any from a Democratic nominee in modern history.”
Meanwhile, while Black Lives protesters in Charlotte, North Carolina, were demanding justice, Donald Trump was suggesting a national version of New York City’s “stop and frisk” program—threatening the freedom of youth in communities of color across the country for simply walking around. He’s also proposed appointing an oil executive to head the Department of the Interior, canceling U.S. commitments to the Paris climate agreement, and weakening freedom of the press.
Tonight, we’ll be looking for moments that illustrate what’s at stake. We invite you to join us by sharing what catches your attention. Use the hashtag #HighStakesNov8.
